Overview

This site is a static notebook. It has no accounts, no comment form, no newsletter and no login, so there is no user profile to build and none is built. The only personal data that ever reaches the operator is what a reader chooses to put in an email.

This policy explains what is collected automatically when a page is served, what the advertising and analytics partners do with that, and what a reader can do about it under the GDPR and the CCPA.

Log data

The web server keeps standard access logs for every request: the requested path, the time, the response status, the referring page if one was sent, and the IP address. These are used to keep the site working, to find broken pages and to block abuse.

Access logs are retained for a short period for troubleshooting and are not combined with any other source to identify a person, because there is no other source to combine them with.

Advertising and Google AdSense

This site is supported by advertising and uses Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on a reader’s prior visits to this and other websites.

Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to readers based on their visits to this site and other sites on the internet. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

This site does not sell personal information. To the extent that advertising cookies constitute "sharing" under the CCPA, that sharing can be stopped by using the consent controls presented on the site or by opting out through Google’s Ads Settings.

Children and external links

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Entries occasionally link to a manufacturer’s documentation or a third-party tool. Once a reader follows such a link, this policy no longer applies and the destination’s own policy governs.

Changes

This policy is reviewed when the site changes in a way that affects it, and the date at the top of the page is updated whenever it does.
